Step By Step Instructions For Making Sterile Water

There are mainly two ways through which you can sterile water at home. We will discuss both the methods one-by-one.

1. Boiling Method

As you know that the boiling water is one of the most effective methods of sterilizing water. This method is being followed by so many past years by lots of people. You do not have to make any special arrangements before using this method.

The following steps need to be followed in this boiling method process for water sterilization:

Step1: First of all, take a stainless steel pot which you have to place the water on the heat stove.

Step 2: Now, next thing is to fill the pot with the water. You should remember that the utensil you are using for the water sterilization must be clean.


Step 3: Put the stainless steel pot with the water over a heat stove.

Step 4: You have to boil the water for the time period of at least 20 minutes.

Step 5: The temperature inside the pot must be retained at 121 degrees Celsius or 250 degrees Fahrenheit during the course of the boiling period.

Step 6: After boiling, let the water to cool and then pour the water into a sterilized container and store it. Finally, your sterile water is prepared

2. Chlorine Method

The second alternative method of sterilizing water at home is by adding chlorine bleach. We hope that you have heard about this? Well! This method is generally used in the emergency circumstances where boiling of water is not possible. For example, sometimes the water is not recommended to be used for boiling.


In many parts of the world, lots of countries clean their water (which they have to supply to their citizens) through the chlorine method. The recommendations on the quantity of bleach can vary as per the water quality and amount.

After following the below steps, you can make your water sterile with the help of the chlorine method simply at your home:

Step 1: Take a stainless steel pot and put the water inside it. You should remember that the utensil you are using for the water sterilization must be clean.

Step 2: Now, add four tablespoons of chlorine bleach in the quantity of 30 gallons of water.

Step 3: Then, mix the bleach into the water and leave it for around 30 minutes.

Step 4: After a gap, if you can smell the chlorine, then it means the water is sterilized properly. But if no smell comes out, then you have to repeat the entire process.

Step 5: So, at last, your sterile water is ready and you can store it for the later use.

​Important tip: You should keep in mind that the chlorine bleaches which you are using must not comprise of any soap or perfumes. There must be the only original smell of the chlorine.
