The Step-by-Step Guide on How to Clean a Pack n Play

You have already have everything you need, let us get started in the process!

Step 1. Check parts.

The cleaning time is also the perfect time for you to check your pack n play for any worn out parts, torn stitching or signs of wear and tear. If you find any parts that need replacement or restoration, repair it right away.

Step 2. Remove sand first. (Pack n play was used on the beach)

You have used the pack n play to the beach, it is imperative that you get rid of sand in the pack n play first before you start the cleaning process.

Pro Tip: You should clear sand off the playard before packing it before you leave the beach because sand may cause damage to the best rail lock.

Step 3. Disassemble the playpen.

Watch this video for tutorial:

For the basic pack n play, the only thing that you have to remove is the mattress. Or if you are using the pack n play with napper, changer, and bassinet, remove all extra parts and the mattress before you start cleaning the pen.

Step 4. Wash the playpen.

Now, let’s go to the most important stuff. There are three techniques on how you can do this. Here they are:

Technique #1: The Normal Procedure

If you wish to clean pack n play with no muss and no fuss, this is the simplest way to do so! This is best done outdoors or in your garage.

  • Step 1. Fill your container with warm water and add sufficient amount of detergent. Mix it well.
  • Step 2. Dip your sponge into it.
  • Step 3. Start wiping the top portion of the playard.

Pro Tip: Protect your netting from possible damage by placing one hand on the back of the net to give it support as you scrub it.

  • Step 5. Once you are done with the netting, proceed on scrubbing the bottom part of the playard.
  • Step 6. Using hand shower, rinse off the detergent.
  • Step 7. Wipe it using a dry towel and allow it air dry.

Technique #2: The Bath Tub Option

This technique is the most efficient method of removing dirt and dust from your pack n play.

  • Step 1. Fill the tub with hot water and add enough amount of basic H2 that will produce a soap foam. Add a few drops of oregano oil (for sanitizing purposes). Mix it by running your hand in the water.
  • Step 2. Fold your playpen and immerse it in the tub with water and washing mixture. Get a cloth and wipe the different parts of the playpen. Dip the cloth from the mixture in the tub from time to time.
  • Step 3. Remove playpen from the tub (you will see all the dirt from the playpen in water in the tub!). Rinse it with water using a hand shower.
  • Step 4. Place it in a cloth towel to allow it to dry.

Pro Tip: If you are in a hurry, you can try drying it using a hair dryer.

Technique #3: The Soaking Method

This method is almost the same with the second technique. This option is recommended if you do not have a basic H2 or oregano oil at home.

Please watch this video for the tutorial:

  • Step 1. Fill the tub with hot water and add a bit of detergent, a few drops of vinegar and ¼ cup of baking soda. Mix by running your hand in the water.
  • Step 2. Soak the playpen in the tub for thirty minutes.
  • Step 3. Flip the playpen and soak it for another 30 minutes.
  • Step 4. Rinse using hand shower.
  • Step 5. Let it dry.

Step 5. Clean the napper and changer.

Clean the changer using soap and water then allow it to drip dry.

On the other hand, machine wash (with no bleach!) the napper in cold water on delicate cycle mode. Let it drip dry too.

Step 6. Wash the pack n play mattress.

Remove the cover. You can machine wash it separately. Scrub the mattress with a soapy cloth. Rinse it off using hand shower and let it dry under the sun.

Step 7. Handwash the bassinet.

Handwash bassinet using tepid water and detergent. Drip dry it out.

Step 8. Clean the carry bag.

You can hand wash the carry bag, or you can machine wash it on delicate cycle in cool water with no bleach. Again, drip dry it.

Pro Tip: If you wish to make sure that your pack n play is clean and safe for your baby, it is recommended that you clean or wipe it on a weekly basis. Do deep cleaning every two weeks or once a month, depending on how many hours your baby spend on the playard.
